Cultural Harmony Award
Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation, an international organization established its Vancouver Chapter in 1992, received this award for a wide range of volunteering services: preparing and serving meals to the homeless in the Downtown Eastside; delivering meals to seniors and the disabled; and fundraising for many causes.
In 1996, the City of Vancouver established Cultural Harmony Awards to recognize individuals and organizations that display a significant and sustained commitment to the promotion of cultural harmony. The recipients are honoured by Vancouver City Council in Council meetings, while their names are engraved on a tree in the Vancouver Park Board Cultural Harmony Grove.
