News Update of Tzu Chi's Relief Efforts in Haiti

On January 19, the 1st TzuChi relief team, along with Senator Juan Roberto Rodriguez Hernandez (who isalso a Tzu Chi volunteer) and soldiers from the Dominican Republic met with TzuChi volunteers in Haiti atthe border (Jimani) to provide relief supplies.
On January 26, TZU CHI’s 2nd reliefassessment team met with local volunteers in Haiti to:
1) discuss how to initiate a relief wor
kprogram, 2) encourage local volunteers to help one another in Haiti and 3) asklocal volunteers to gather more first-hand news about the situation fromdisaster sites so TZU CHI relief teams can provide assistance in adherence toTZU CHI’s relief principles of timeliness, directness, priority, respect,conservation and gratitude.
TZU CHI global headquarters has shipped10 tons of relief goods (including eco-friendly blankets, instant rice, instantcorn powder, reusable utensils, etc.) to the Dominican Republic waiting to bedistributed to Haiti. Currently, TZU CHI global headquarters still has 28 tonsof relief goods ready to be shipped to Haiti.
TZU CHI will focus on areas that havenot been helped, instead of going to the center of Port-au-Prince and continueto prepare for mid to long term rebuilding in Haiti.Please visit our Tzu ChiUSA website for more details on Haiti Relief Effort.
